The Single Life
I finished spinning my pound of Cormo last night – only about 6 months after I started and over a year after I bought it…
Now that I have two wheels I have 2 lazy kates, which is great because I can load them both up and just ply without having to move anything.
On the right you see the scrap of paper on which I planned my bobbin use so I wouldn’t end up with three lots of single left, but two of them one on top of the other on the same bobbin…
The little 6th bobbin in front can serve as ‘extra’ to use to balance out what I’m sure are unbalanced amounts of single on the full bobbins.
Now – to find the time to 3 ply it. Unfortunately I’m going to be gone for the weekend (at my mumble-th college reunion) so I can’t just dive into it as I’d like – this will be a very new thing for me and I know I shouldn’t try to be rushed about it. I plan to follow Sam’s detailed instructions but I have a unique way of screwing up everything, especially the simple things….
Next week: a completed Wool Peddler’s. I’m within about 20 rows of being done.
O.k., these are drop dead gorgeous. Next year’s MS&W is going to have to be a handspun fashion show. I’ll start thinking of something fabulous for Dorset. 😉 Have fun at the reunion!
Oh MAN!! Those are a sight to look at! You give me inspriation when I’m about ready to crumble over combing my own bag o’cormo. It’s just beautiful! So do you know what it will be after yarn?
I — AM — IMPRESSED. Caroline, that is one honkin’ beautiful sight; those filled bobbins all neatly lined up like babies in a hospital nursery.
What a LOT of spinning. BEAUTIFUL !!
Helen
Lovely stuff! What weight do you think it will be as a three-ply? The bobbin use plan looks quite useful – report back!
Ah, I just swooned over those full bobbins. That’s a good bit of spinning you’ve done there.
I can’t wait to see it plied.
Holy moley. I am looking at ALL of those bobbins thinking, “how can that be just one pound of fiber”? (this from a spinner who can load 8 ounces on a Majacraft bobbin.) I guess that if you are into all of that glorious combing, you will of COURSE be doing a three ply yarn, of COURSE. Do you have a project in mind? Something with an Aran bent, simply because of the three plies? I can’t wait to see how perfectly you come down to yor yardage count match-up, Caroline. That is some serious bizzzzness going on there. I am just going to skip over to my huge basket of fluffy, messy stuff and spin some primitive stuff in your honor. :oD Ok, Kerry, you are next…
My bobbins are only supposed to hold a 4 ounce cop. The mystery to me is that I somehow made them only hold about 3 ounces. Guess I don’t pack them full enough.
Yummy 🙂 Have a good time this weekend and let me do some spinning catch-up!
wow, what a long way you have come with spinning since i first met you! i am impressed. i just started my wool peddler’s shawl out of my recent handspun. i can’t wait to see yours.
What a beautiful, and inspiring, picture! It is going to be just fabulous to knit with, too, I am sure.
Beautiful.
And thanks for the orange. It was a great treat after an awful day. Lost in UAT.
I CANNOT wait to see what you do with this loveliness!
that is simply yummy 🙂
