Which end is up
Things are confusing here. Two days of massive tree pollen followed by a day of sleet and an inch of snow. I’m not sure if I have allergies or a cold…
I finished the merino/tencel but couldn’t ply it because I like to let singles sit at least overnight before making a center pull ball for plying. I used the flash this time to try to give you an idea of what this stuff looks like.
I finished a sleeve of the swing coat and started the second sleeve.
I am going to be fine with the yardage I have, so now I get to decide what to do with 4 ounces more of this dark bluefaced leicester – try to spin it fine for socks, and overdye?
Cats Day continues at a leisurely pace.

Emily’s shawl grows too, although more and more slowly as the rows get longer.
This is a scan of a pair of pants Emily has. I would love to try to knit this… but have no talent for such tasks.
Lilac, pale pink, spring green, tiny dots of pale blue, and charcoal. But – could it be done with only two colors per row??

To match that swatch, you could do a knotted openwork scarf with beads to mimic the motif. Maybe in lilac kidsilk with alternating green and blue beads over each knot? KSH is easy to string beads on, and the beads make it easier to pull the stitches over (you grab the bead instead of struggling with the needle to lift the stitch.) Oh, I think that pattern could definitely be knitted. First, I’d have to lift the pattern from your blog. Then, I’d have to use a grid pattern in Excel or something like that to lay over it. Then, I’d have to “clean it up” with efforts to make each rectangle of knitting action a solid color. Then, there’d be the simplification of hte pattern–being sure there were only 2 colors a row. Totally do-able, but a labor of love. How badly do you want it?!

Lovely singles. The sheen is perfect. Emily’s shawl is growing even more delightful as it gets bigger.
I can’t wait to see those singles plyed. They are really quite beautiful. It looks like the print on Emmy’s pants would have more than two colours per row.
That silver looks like something an elven cloak (ala Lord of the Rings) could be made from. Gorgeous!
As for the design in Emmy’s pants, there are allover print charts similar to it–in AS’s Charts book, Latvian Dreams and probably some others. To get around the problem of having more than two colors in a row, you could use the charcoal as the foreground color and then shade the other colors in the background, maybe alternating the colors on the middle rows of each repeat so the pink would pop out at times alternating with the green the next time. Or, something like that.
I’ve been spinning merino/tencel also – isn’t that sheen something?
Would it be possible to knit with 2 colors and have some kind of slip stitch pattern going on with the third color? Just kind of thinking. I may have to experiment a little.
Melanie — did you make the Peacock Shawl?? Also, the pattern you are talking about looks a lot like a certain Alice Starmore pattern (I can’t think of the name but if I find it I’ll let you know).
